About

Ken Eastwood

I’m an Assistant Director with Barnsley MBC in South Yorkshire, where I lead Regulatory Services.

We deliver a diverse range of statutory regulatory functions including Environmental Health, Pollution Control, Pest Control, Food Safety, Health and Safety at Work, Licensing (including alcohol, entertainment, gambling and taxi), Planning Enforcement, Private Sector Housing Enforcement, Trading Standards, Consumer Advice and Bereavement Services. I also coordinate enforcement across the Council.

I’m an Environmental Health Officer by profession and began my local government career in 1985 in Liverpool. I worked in Bradford for 15 years before joining Barnsley in 2002.

I’m working on some really neat things at the minute;

Nomad I have been a board member of Nomad since 2003 and I have chaired Nomad North, a regional forum aiming to stimulate organisational change across the public sector and promote new ways of working enabled by technology. I’ve just assumed the national lead for Nomad.

ReGS Project I’m leading a collaborative national project with Sheffield City Council, looking at the implementation of mobile and flexible working across local authority Regulatory Services.

YoHr Regs Programme is promoting better Regulatory Services by helping to deliver;

 •     Efficient & effective Local Authority Services

•     Modernisation and new ways of working

•     Business compliance and economic prosperity

BarnsleyBUZZ is a new Innovation & Challenge ‘Ginger Group’ that I’ve been asked to establish and lead by the Chief Executive. We’re currently working on some exciting proposals around the use of social media.
